The Suns beat the Kings 96-88 in Phoenix on Sunday. The Suns shot decent, but were nothing special on the night. Thankfully, they were playing a team that has been even more disenfranchised then they have been. The Suns improve their record to 17-20 with the win while improving their home record to 10-9. The team will look to continue to play spoiler as the year goes on.
The Suns were led by Steve Nash in the game. Nash scored 19 to lead the team and added 7 assists, which were most on the team as well. Gortat helped the team get the win by grabbing 17 big rebounds in the contest. The Suns fell behind early and were down by 5 at the half. They came out in the second half, however, and outscored the Kings 49-36. This ultimately cost the Kings the game and gave the Suns another victory.
The Kings did get some good play from their team. Thornton led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Cousins also did well on the boards as he collected 14 rebounds. The team did score 32 points in the first quarter, but followed this up by getting less and less points each quarter after, They also did not have a single quarter over 20 points scored after the first. The loss brings the Kings record to 12-25 on the year and makes them a dreadful 4-19 in games played away from home. They will have to try and also play spoiler the remainder of the year as they are certainly out of contention.
