Arizona blew a 6 point lead on Thursday to fall to the Reds in Cincinnati. The D-backs led 6-0 in the 6th inning before beginning to self destruct, as they slowly let the Reds back into the game. Cinci was able to score 7 runs between the 6th and 7th innings to get the victory. The Diamondback have had a recent history of such losses and need to find a way to win games. Their relievers have really caused them much grief this season and without this issue they may be a playoff team.
The final ended 7-6 in favor of the Reds. This was despite the Diamondbacks outhitting the Reds 14-6. Two of those 14 hits were homeruns by Hill, who hit his 13th, and Blanco who hit his first. The loss was credited to D-back pitcher Shaw who is just 1-4 on the year now. He was unable to come in and have any effect and ultimately cost his team the game despite the lead. The Diamondbacks are now 44-48 on the season and fall to 21-27 in away games.
The Reds big comeback win can further help them in their quest for the playoffs, as they are in a tight race with the Pirates for the division. The reds had just 6 hits, but strung them together nicely in the 6th and 7th to score 7 runs and end up taking the lead. They did get a huge homerun from Phillips who hit his 11th of the year. Chapman got his 15 save of the year as well and the reds improve to 52-40 on the year.
