As of Friday, Nov. 4, Cardinals' QB Kevin Kolb had not practiced for three days, and was listed as doubtful for the Nov. 6 game against the St. Louis Rams at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
Kolb has turf toe, meaning he has torn or sprained ligaments in his toe. That sounds painful. It also inhibits his ability to push off with his foot while passing, which could hinder his accuracy. Not that he's been all that accurate this year. In the 7 games played so far this season, his accuracy rating is right around 50%. And, according to Stats, Inc., the Cardinals have dropped 14 of 145 pass attempts that were deemed catchable, which ties the team for the 8th most dropped, catchable passes in the NFL this season.
If Kolb doesn't play, look for back-up QB John Skelton to take his place. Unfortunately, in the past, Skelton hasn't been all that accurate in his passing either. Last season, Skelton started 4 games, and had an average accuracy rating of just over 47%.
Four players in addition to Kolb will be out for Sunday's game. Safety Kerry Rhodes is still unable to play due to foot surgery; linebacker Joey Porter will sit out with a knee problem. Tight end Rob Housler and fullback Anthony Sherman are also out for the game with groin and ankle injuries, respectively.
Sunday's game against the Rams is a sellout, the 59th consecutive sellout for the Cardinals since moving into the stadium at the University of Phoenix. Fans attending the game will be able to help the hungry by donating non-perishable food items or cash to the 2011 Holiday Food Drive sponsored by the Cardinals and Sagicor Life Insurance. Donations will benefit St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix.
